HOW TO GET STARTED

We find that most dogs require good recall off leash, some ball drive, and a friendly disposition around other dogs to be successful in our program. For most students and handlers, it takes at least 6 months to gain the confidence, skill and drive to play flyball. Some take shorter and some take longer. But, we never give up if you don’t!

  1. Please review the PREREQUISITE CRITERIA below before purchasing your Try It Lesson for $20
  2. Buy the $20 Try It Lesson, where we will evaluate your dog’s ability to enjoy flyball
  3. Fill out the WAIVER and bring it with you
  4. Fill out the contact card to BOOK the Sunday you are attending. We need this information in order to manage the volume of dogs attending.
  5. Come to the BOOKED Lesson. If you enjoy your lesson and your pooch passes the one-hour evaluation, then you are ready to take lessons. Learn more about lessons here.
  6. Purchase our 4-lesson punch-card here. Your card never expires. Flyball is taught open-ability style. Dogs of many different levels learn together.

  • We are not just individuals. This is a team sport – meaning we all work together

CAUTION

We want you and your dog to succeed in fun sports. Flyball is a team sport requiring great obedience and is not always the best answer for all dogs. We do not provide basic obedience training or behavioral correction training.

  • “I’d like my dog to become more socialized and/or run around” = This is a flag. We aren’t socializing the dogs. We are training them. Your dog is not encouraged to socialize.
  • “I’d like my dog to play with other dogs.” = This is a flag. We aren’t playing, we are working, so you may not be ready as a handler for the dog-handler diligence required in this sport.
  • “My dog cannot be crated” = Please work on this one. Your participation without your dog in hand is required in any flyball club.
  • “My dog requires a soft muzzle, electrified, or metal collar” = No, your pooch is not ready for the dynamics of flyball with Seattle FlyDogs yet.
  • I’d like to work on reducing my dog’s fear reactions” = No, your pooch is not ready for the dynamics of flyball yet. Fear reactions may include: growling, lunging. In general, if you do not have control of your dog’s behavior, then it is not ready for flyball with Seattle FlyDogs. Successful flyball dogs can be off leash and in handler control at all times.

If you fall in the red then there is lots of pre-work to do! And we support you and can recommend wonderful trainers.
